If your children can name every car or motorbike that passes their window, wear out the knees of their jeans pushing toy cars on pretend racetracks and choose to read road safety manuals instead of bedtime stories, it may be time to indulge them in a transport themed bedroom.
If there’s one thing a transport themed bedroom can bring to life, it’s a sense of adventure. Whether it’s a quick DIY job of painting an old tyre a wacky colour or making use of an old scalextric set to mount on the wall, you’ll be surprised how easy it can be to create an inspiring kids room that revs the imagination.

If you don’t fancy buying a classic toddler car bed, then take inspiration from Stsite who created this car bed by knocking into a closet. She completed the motor theme by hand-painting the floor with a race track and adding a couple of shelves to store her son’s favourite toy cars and books.
This shared room created by Isabell Gent for her sons literally turns the transport theme on its head! Why not blow the dust off an old Scalextric track and use it as a piece of wall art? Genius! It looks perfect paired with a dramatic black and white wallpaper.
How inspiring is this industrial-style childrens’ room, prepared by stylist/photographer Paulina Arcklin. Full of raw textures and an old washed out denim colour scheme, this modern bedroom is the perfect example of how to push the boundaries of children’s deco.
It might be a minimal nursery, but this family home, belonging to an artist and an environmental scientist (featured on Jelanie Blog, and photographed by Katherine Lu), shows how to make a decor feature out of your family’s favourite mode of transport. With bikes hanging from the ceiling as a centrepiece outside their son’s bedroom, they help ingrain their family values of sustainability and limiting one’s carbon footprint.
How lovely is this colourful boys bedroom photographed by Abby Low, which was featured on A Cup of Jo. The transport theme grew from Abby’s two sons’ love for trains and garbage trucks. “Once a week on garbage day, they glue themselves to the window and watch the truck go by.” We love how they keep their Brio set proudly on display in the corner on a simple white Ikea table.
Chloeuberkid has played with the transport theme in her son’s room by installing a Rafa Kids toddler bed, a sailing ship poster and modern adventure rug. Chloe’s subtle and balanced styling demonstrates how to follow a theme without overdoing it. Take a look at the shoot in La Petite Mag.
