Fads come and go, but dinosaurs seem to endure as theme for children’s interiors. Here we share some jurassic themed rooms we love and some ideas on how to get the look.
A – Apatosaurus B – Brachiosaurus C – Corythosaurus D – Diondocus… It’s amazing what little palaeontologists can retain and repeat about their favourite species. Why children are so enamoured by dinosaurs remains a mystery, but it could be something to do with them being huge, fierce and extinct: making them scary, but safe, playmates.
Whether you go all out with dino-wallpaper or use simple white shelves to display your child’s treasured toy dinosaur collection, prehistoric themed bedrooms provide the ultimate escapism for young adventurers
Here’s some rooms we love that play on the dinosaur theme…
For those looking for an easy dino-upgrade, we love this modern space with its clean and bright colour scheme as seen in Louis Le Sec’s bedding lookbook. The dino wall sticker and name garland add a cheerful touch of personality to this simple yet fun room.
Are you handy with a paintbrush? Take inspiration from this room featured on Carter Blog and paint your own prehistoric backdrop with a bubbling volcano to set the scene. We love the volcanic rock reading corner with toy Pterodactyls flying overhead and the large dinosaur footprints on the floor. The perfect room for any aspiring palaeontologist.
For a nod to the theme without dedicating the entire scheme to dinosaurs, how about curating their favourite dinosaur models into a display? Wall racks, open bookshelves or even a linen cupboard work wonders. We love this eclectic and fun room created by US event planner Jordan Ferney and shared on her blog, Oh Happy Day
Fun and functional, Samara Khaja created a “Dino Mapasaurus” to revamp her son’s headboard, showcasing some of the places around the world that dinosaurs have been discovered. As Samara explains on Spoonflower Blog, “It’s the perfect way to revamp the look and feel of a bedroom without sending one’s wallet off to weep quietly in the closet.”
Perfect for big boys, Riikka Kantinkoski redecorated her son’s room using some fabulous grey Dino wallpaper from Siang Zeng (as shared on Sian Zeng’s Blog). This wallpaper is the perfect addition to on trend monochrome rooms, especially for older children who prefer a more subtle dinosaur nod. The green and yellow magnetic version is our favourite, though – as pictured at the top of this feature.
Who said dinosaur themes can’t be unisex? We can’t get enough of the D’ya-think-e-saurus dinosaur wallpaper from one of our favourite British brands, Paperboy. Detailed and fierce, the colour ways still allow for a dinosaur-themed room to be a calm and neutral space.
