To celebrate our first ever Parties Issue we asked you to show us your best homemade kids birthday cakes on Facebook and Instagram. Find out which one TV cook and super baker Lisa Faulkner picked as our winner.
If there’s one thing that sends parents into competitive overdrive it’s birthday cakes. Not shy of a challenge, many of us let our children dictate the theme and we then set to on the ambitious creation, dutifully baking and decorate until the small hours in order to deliver the wow factor. Are we doing it for the kids? It doesn’t really matter.
We were overwhelmed by the entries, not only because there were so many, but because clearly many of you are doing the wrong day job! The standard was seriously high.
So after lots of deliberation (and a few fallings out), we finally managed to whittle it down to a shortlist of our ten favourites – some technically perfect, some original and some that just made us smile. And then we left it to Lisa to choose one winner and two runners-up.
The Final 10:
Abney and Teal Cake by Gilly Morton
Dragon Cake by Charlotte Melford
Spider Cake by E-J Adam
Hungry Caterpillar Rainbow Cake by Bec Smi
Tea Party Cake by Anna Freebury
Cow Cake by Nicola Jane Wood
Tractor Cake by Tanya Jajo
Spiderman Cake by Jenny Powell
Barbie House Cake by Rosie Willmott
Gruffalo Cake by Tara Lingley (sadly cropped for this page – go to Facebook to see the full creation!)
